• Welcome to Bali Wedding Photo blog !

A few words about me and my approach as wedding photographer, if I may: I have been a Bali Wedding Photographer for over eight years and have been documenting in excess of 300 Bali destination weddings for couples from across the world. For me wedding photography in Bali is not a profession, but a calling driven by an innate curiosity for what lies beyond the obvious. I am passionate about wedding photography and believe in the power of the enduring still image in our fast paced world where the emphasis is on immediacy. An intimate photograph stops time and allows you to reflect, to relive a moment and above all: TO FEEL. I am consumed with a desire to be an eye witness to the diversity of human emotions and to record all the defining moments of your wedding in Bali. I do so with empathy and honesty. I harness the story-telling power of wedding photo journalism by highlighting your own individuality and through meticulous attention to details. Some people have asked how could I have made such compelling and engaging photographs – my answer is: how could I not…

Underwater

Underwater

This underwater photo shoot is definitely my best so far. Mainly because of these two wonderful guys: Lana & Tom. Giving directions for an under water shoot is always a bit tough. Try to get someone to smile underwater and you will know what I am talking about here. This is because it is already difficult enough for people to swim and hold breath and and and… But what Lana & Tom did was way beyond my expectations. They ‘performed’ in the water as if they have been doing this their whole life. Whereas in reality it was also their first photo shoot underwater. Lana’s wedding dress was also perfect – although it disintegrated slowly during the shoot.

Those photos were created over a period of about 1.5 hours in a pool specially prepared for this kind of photography. The high noon sun also flooded the pool with light. Which in turn resulted in the perfect lighting conditions. I was completely exhausted after the session and 40 – 50 dives. But it was very rewarding experience. I could not have asked for a better couple for this under water shoot.  Anyway. without any further ado please see the photographs of Lana & Tom:

Incredible shots, Dominik. I can feel how you, the photographer, and the couple became a synergistic dance. Tom and Lana are beautiful and their love for each other radiates from them. They look so relaxed and in a state of bliss. The wedding gown she chose is spectacular for this kind of shoot. They are obviously very photogenic and are able to “be” even underwater. Heart touching and a beautiful experience for the observer. Congratulations to all of you for this experience that you manifested. Thanks for sharing your love and these intimate moments. Blessings…

Dominik’s underwater photos were amazing and exceeded every expectation! Plus lots of fun.

Semara Wedding

Semara-wedding-photographer

Firstly please see the video of this fantastic Bali wedding:

Dru & Mariana’s wedding took place at Semara Resort . An absolutely gorgeous location overlooking the Lombok Straits. And they could not have asked for a better day. The weather and consequently the light were absolute 10 out of 10. And so was everything else. I personally very much enjoyed that for the first time in my career I had the opportunity to meet lot’s of people from Brazil. This was because at this Semara wedding the bride and her family were from that part of the world. The Brazilians were a perfect match for the Aussies, as they truly know how to throw a party and have a good time.

Another personal highlight for me was the photo session we had at the beach. I love this soft sunset light which we had. And Dru & Mariana were ‘naturals’. I just let them be themselves, gave them hardly any directions and the pix turned out beautiful.

The reception and dinner for this Semara wedding took place under a beautiful tent. The atmosphere was very casual. Part of the crowd, including the newlyweds already started to dance spontaneously long before the actual ‘first dance’. The rest of the evening was food, fun, dancing, cake cutting, speeches and more. So without much further ado I am proud to present you the photos of this fabulous Semara wedding:

Prewedding with Love & Fire

Prewedding Photographer

I had a great time with this lovely couple from mainland China. We embarked on our usual prewedding photo tour. This prewedding shoot had all the elements to make it perfect. And as the icing on the cake we did some pyrotechnics during the sunset period. Therefore I have termed this shoot: LOVE – FIRE – BALI.

I wish this two amazing people all the best and thank you so much for choosing me as your prewedding photographer in Bali.

Photos of a wedding in rain

wedding in rain

Weddings and pre wedding photographs during the height of the rain season in Bali are somewhat risky business. But that was not to deter Toby & Gilbert. Come rain, come sunshine they were ready for it. To mitigate the risk of rain spoiling it all they decided to have a pre wedding session 3 days before the wedding. And it turned out to be a prudent move to do so. On the day of the pre wedding photos the weather was so-so. Which turned out to be a blessing in disguise because of the soft light that the over casted sky on that day provided. In the end everyone was happy that we had at least the pre wedding photos under wraps.

On the wedding day they had planned to do the ceremony at 17.00 h. I advised them to set the ceremony one hour earlier. Why ? Because the chance of rain was very high for that day. So my idea was that if it would rain at 16.00 h they could wait for the rain to stop and then still do the wedding ceremony. And this strategy paid off. When I arrived at 15.00 h there were huge rain clouds in the sky. Rain was an inevitability! And it was decided to proceed with the wedding ceremony as planned. A wise decision! Towards the end of the ceremony it started to rain heavily. But that was not to spoil this lovely wedding. Only the signing had to be done under a roof. We continued with the group and family photographs.

And then best part was to come. Because of the ongoing rain we were unable to shoot any photos outdoors. At first it appeared to be a bit of a problem where to do the photographs… But I love challenges and we did all the photos inside the hotel. I am completely thrilled with the results. I am very glad that I was confronted with this challenge.
